At the 2021 & 2024 Annual Meetings, and several other times over the past few years, Revd. Sally & Parish Council have flagged the need to replace the pews in St Leonard’s, which are becoming increasingly unstable & therefore unsafe. Several have been decommissioned or moved against a wall. They are also infamously uncomfortable with no back support & narrow seats. Some years ago they were nailed down, but this is now loosening and damaging the floor. The faculty outlines the situation, the alternatives investigated, cost, and the current proposal to work with an Albany fine furniture maker to custom design elegant and comfortable native timber seating with book storage – probably a combination of short pews and chairs. Parish Council are excited by this project & believe it will respect the history and enhance the beauty of the church.
